Morning Musume's sole 7th generation member Kusumi Koharu will leave the Hello! Project on December 6th 2009, at the end of the current Morning Musume concert tour. The news was announced today at the start of the tour by Hello! Project and group leader Takahashi Ai.
Koharu achieved great success as the voice actor for Tsukishima Kirari, the main character in the anime Kirarin Revolution. Through the show she released six singles and several albums. Her biggest hit "Balalaika" was the highest selling Hello! Project release of 2006, with over 72k of sales. When the show finished in March 2009 Koharu continued to appear on TV shows under her own name.
After graduation, Koharu hopes to move into modelling, while training for a possible future solo career.
New Unit MilkyWay

A new unit from the anime Kirarin Revolution has been announced, following on from the success of Kira Pika.
Kirari star Kusumi Koharu be joined by Kikkawa Yuu and Kitahara Sayaka from the Hello! Project Eggs to form "MilkyWay". Their first song "Anata Boshi" will be released on the 30th of April.

Balalaika, the second single from Kusumi Koharu has reached number 8 in the first week of release, selling an impressive 28,132 copies. That is up 10 thousand copies from the same period of her first release, Koi Kana, which went on to stay in the charts for 10 weeks and sold a total of 38.6k.
The song from Koharu's anime, Kirarin Revolution, released under the name Tsukishima Kirari starring Kusumi Koharu (Morning Musume), is the Hello! Project's third highest first week sales so far this year behind the two Morning Musume singles.
Koi Kana gets 12th for the first week

"Miracle Member" Kusumi Koharu's first solo single "Koi*Kana (恋☆カナ) by Tsukishima Kirari starring Koharu Kusumi (Morning Musume)" has scored 12th place in the Oricon weekly chart, selling 18,125 copies.
To put it in perspective, that's more then two of Goto Maki's last three singles, more than Matsuura Aya's last single, and more than all but one of Berryz Koubou's singles.
Koharu's solo debut released with surprising success

8th gen Morning Musume member Kusumi Koharu's first solo single "Koi*Kana (恋☆カナ) by Tsukishima Kirari starring Koharu Kusumi (Morning Musume)" was released yesterday, and managed reach number 8 on its first day in the Oricon Daily Chart.
The song is the opening theme to the TV Tokyo anime series Kirarin Revolution, which Koharu stars in as a young girl trying to become an idol.
