8th Generation Morning Musume member Mitsui Aika has been forced to rest after being diagnosed with appendicitis, and will miss this weekends concerts. It is currently unknown if she has had to have her appendix removed. Announcement.

Morning Musume will stage their first concert in South Korea this summer. It will be staged on 2008-06-01 in the Olympic Hall at the Seoul Olympic Park. Their upcoming single "Resonant Blue" will be released in South Korea on the same day as Japan. Announcement.

The four Hello! Project Kansai members have "graduated" as trainees, and formed their own unit "SI☆NA " (SI NA, pronounced she-na). The name is taken from the first letters of their names, Suma Ai, Iwashima Manami, Nakayama Nana and Abe Asami. They are working towards their debut, and it is unclear if they are still under the Hello! Project tag. Announcement.

Berryz Koubou single "Dschinghis Khan" has now edged out Buono! for the H!P Kids total sales record. It has sold a total of 35,395 copies, nearly 400 more then Buono's "Renai Rider".

Following her recently released interviews, former Hello! Project member Kago Ai has started an official fanclub called "Biscuit Club", and is writing a blog. Link.

Berryz Koubou Hit Sales High

Berryz Koubou Hit Sales High After a year of being overshadowed by their sister group C-ute, Berryz Koubou have taken the record for highest first week by a Hello! Project Kids unit.

Their single "Dschinghis Khan" has sold 30,667 copies in it's first week, beating C-ute's highest first week sales by 1.5k, and reached number 5 in the weekly chart. It also outsold the first weeks for anime tie-ins Buono! and the Kirarin Revolution singles.

The song was recorded by Berryz Koubou as the theme tune for a musical of the same name. It is a cover of the 1979 German Eurovision Song Contest entry by the band Dschinghis Khan, from which Morning Musume's 2000 hit Koi no Dance Site borrowed heavily.

Morning Musume become Japan's biggest selling female group With their latest single selling 54k for its first week, Morning Musume have surpassed Pink Lady in total sales and become the highest selling female group in Japanese history.

Kanashimi Twilight reached number 2 in the Oricon weekly chart, beating out new songs from ORANGE RANGE and WaT. It is their most successful first week since Iroppoi Jirettai was released in July 2005; both songs received a boost from including the chance to win tickets to handshaking events. It was also the final release before the graduation of Morning Musume's popular leader Yoshizawa Hitomi, and also the last before the debut of Chinese members Junjun and Linlin.

Pink Lady sold a total of 11,036,000 singles in their career, while Morning Musume have now so far sold over 11,085,000 singles with line-ups featuring 25 different girls over ten years.

C-ute's major debut single hits #5

C-ute's major debut single hits #5 Sakura Chirari, the major debut single from Hello! Project's youngest group C-ute, has reached number 5 in its first week of release with 23,827 singles sold. The single sales were boosted by coming with the chance to win tickets for an upcoming C-ute event tour.

To compare: their sister group Berryz Koubou have never broken 20k in a first week, and C-ute look certain to beat their highest figure of 24,449 for Special Generation.

C-ute have slowly built up their fan base over the last two years, releasing four indie-singles last summer, and they performed their first proper solo concert this past weekend at the Nippon Seinenkan.

Morning Musume hit Number 1

Morning Musume hit Number 1 With Aruiteru selling 41k singles in its first week, Morning Musume have reached the number 1 spot in the Oricon chart for the first time since Souda! We're Alive in 2002.

This is their 10th number one, finally surpassing Pink Lady's record to officially make them Japan's most successful female group ever.

Koharu reaches new sales high

Koharu reaches new sales high Balalaika, the second single from Kusumi Koharu has reached number 8 in the first week of release, selling an impressive 28,132 copies. That is up 10 thousand copies from the same period of her first release, Koi Kana, which went on to stay in the charts for 10 weeks and sold a total of 38.6k.

The song from Koharu's anime, Kirarin Revolution, released under the name Tsukishima Kirari starring Kusumi Koharu (Morning Musume), is the Hello! Project's third highest first week sales so far this year behind the two Morning Musume singles.

Koi Kana gets 12th for the first week "Miracle Member" Kusumi Koharu's first solo single "Koi*Kana (恋☆カナ) by Tsukishima Kirari starring Koharu Kusumi (Morning Musume)" has scored 12th place in the Oricon weekly chart, selling 18,125 copies.

To put it in perspective, that's more then two of Goto Maki's last three singles, more than Matsuura Aya's last single, and more than all but one of Berryz Koubou's singles.

Koharu's solo debut released with surprising success

8th gen Morning Musume member Kusumi Koharu's first solo single "Koi*Kana (恋☆カナ) by Tsukishima Kirari starring Koharu Kusumi (Morning Musume)" was released yesterday, and managed reach number 8 on its first day in the Oricon Daily Chart.

The song is the opening theme to the TV Tokyo anime series Kirarin Revolution, which Koharu stars in as a young girl trying to become an idol.
